The Crown
American Coed - My First Pageant...
It was by chance that I received a letter in the mail offering me an opportunity to participate in the American Coed Pageant for Miss Northern California Teen. Had this opportunity come at any other point in my life, I would have probably just tossed it out with the junk mail. But there I was at the end of senior year serious contemplating what I could do to make my senior summer memorable and the pageant sparked my interest. This was my first pageant and I had no idea what to expect.
What An Amazing Time...
On the day of orientation, I rode my Honda F4-I motorcycle in order to get through traffic faster (in the commuter lane) and make sure I was on time. When I arrived, I did not even have time to take my helmet off. Picture this...a young lady wearing jeans, a black leather jacket, and a matte black motorcycle helmet running though a beautiful five star hotel passing all the other pageant girls who where wearing perfectly coordinated outfits with binders ready to take notes on the events to come. I stuck out like a sore thumb. But I must say, the motorcycle was quite the ice breaker!
Dreaming of Nationals...
As the winner of the speech competition and first runner-up for Miss Teen Northern California, I was granted permission to advance to National Competition during the week of November 20-26, 2006. In a few weeks I will be at Walt Disney World in Florida gaining more poise, grace, interview experience, and making new friends during nationals.
I Want To Experience Everything...
I wanted to get the most out of the time because I wasn't sure if I was ever going to get another opportunity like this one. So I signed up for everything. I competed in talent, speech, modeling, academic achievement, and community service. I had so much fun with the girls. They are all so amazing and unique. Every conversation I had was enthralling and full of information that I could build on. These girls represent the future doctors, lawyers, and policy makers of the world and I can say that I had the opportunity to meet them.
An Early Christmas Present...
Only the queens, their court, and optional competition winners (Speech, Talent, & Modeling) get to participate at the national level. Thanks to my sponsors, I was able to go to Nationals.
It was the best early Christmas present of my life. ![]()

They Like Me! They Really Like Me...
On the final pageant night I was completely blown away. When I won the speech competition, the crowd went wild! That same night I was awarded first runner-up for academic achievement and first runner-up for Miss Teen Northern California. I made it in the queens court! Being the first time that I have ever done anything like this in my life, I was amazed that I was first runner-up. But the one thing I will never forget is winning Miss Personality. Those girls touched my life and by them voting me Miss Personality, I can say that I touched their lives as well.
